deicides asked: I would recommend northern Italy if you want to leave Spain. Florence (a must for its history and art), Venice, and definitely hike Cinque Terre. Rome seemed a fairly irritating city to me, heavily tourist-packed and quite dirty. But if you want to stay in Spain go to Seville, Cadiz, Gibraltar, San Sebastian, Segovia, Madrid, etc. Another excellent cheap option is Portugal (Lisbon and Oporto).

Europe in June: travel suggestions?
So, on June 14 I’m flying back to Barcelona and will be there through the end of the month. I am going to spend part of that showing a friend around Barcelona, but I want to take some side trips since I have free time June 15-17ish and June 24-29ish.
I could go to Madrid, I could go somewhere else in Spain (I’ve spent some quality time in Girona, Figueres, some small towns around...
